Timpani heads are not like normal snare drum or tom heads. Timpani head sizes are specific to the drums make and model. Most timpani use extended collar heads. This means the head is actually larger than the bowl size. So, how do you find out what heads you need? Below are a couple resources to help you make sure you pick out the right size timpani heads. If you still are unsure, please contact us with any questions so we can get the correct heads to you!
If you know the make and model of your timpani, below are great charts from both Remo and Evans. If you know the size bowl of your drum, you can check what head size is needed. If you don’t know the size of your bowl, after removing the head and counterhoop, measure from the outside edge of the bowl straight across the circumference to the opposite outside edge.
Please check out the charts that both Remo and Evans offer to help you select the approcpirate size heads.
