Dr. Dan Moore is an internationally known musician, composer, and educator. He is professor of music and an associate director at the University of Iowa’s School of Music, which is right down the road from Percussion Source/West Music. In addition, he’s an Innovative Percussion and Yamaha artist, and serves as a board member for multiple percussion groups across the country. In addition to performing and teaching, he has his own line of mallets through Innovative Percussion. The Dan Moore series of marimba/vibraphone mallets were developed for the musician, composer, and educator. For Dan, creating music is the art of sculpting sound. Whether in a live concert or in the recording studio, making art with sound is all about choosing the right tools to chisel, smooth, hammer, and shape your music. All the mallets in the line highlight Moore’s signature full-bodied, resonant, and “fruity” sound. These mallets work well on vibes and marimba and can be mixed and matched to help you create your own sculpture in sound.
Moore’s newest mallet is the DMCV – or “classic vibe” mallet. This mallet is designed to produce the classic jazz vibraphone sound— and to help the player be heard in concert with other instruments. The DMCV is intended to be used for two mallets playing. Dr. Moore offers, “[This] helps you think differently and play in the classic style or old school jazz vibe sound” through two mallet playing. The versatility of these mallets also enables more hand dampening for a more controlled sound.
